  I have worked at PAWS for over a year, and let me tell you why I love it: I have never in my life met a group of people more dedicated to helping these animals. The compassion and pure love shown from every single person working at PAWS is astounding. I've seen with my own eyes staff members working with with our dogs and cats, even if they come in frightened or aggressive, trying to get them the perfect home. I've seen them put in the extra effort to try and find the dog that accidently got out of your fence. I've seen them contact 50 rescues trying to find someone to take the difficult dog/cat who they couldn't get on the adoption floor. We are the shelter/animal control for all of Rutherford County. Let me say it louder for those of you in the back: ALL OF RUTHERFORD COUNTY. Give our officers a break. They are following Tennessee law and just want what is best for the animals. And while we're at it, do you know how many people call PAWS every day? We take messages throughout the day and have ONE person answer the phone. Please put yourself in her shoes and understand why she can't answer every phone call for all of Rutherford County. Leave a CLEAR voicemail with your name and number and she will call you back. Cool? Cool. NEWS FLASH: WE DON'T WANT TO EUTHANIZE THESE ANIMALS. We absolutely hate it. We do everything we can to prevent it. If a dog or cat has bitten a person, if they cannot be handled by us, if we run out of kennels and crates, we have no choice. We are government own. We are considered a LOW-KILL shelter. We do not euthanize a pit bull as soon as they come in. We don't euthanize ANY dog as soon as they come in. Here's another thing: Our vet staff is the most hard working in all of TN. Our awesome Vet has to do about 30 surgeries a day (we do it free for the public) and provide vet care to every single animal in our care with limited resources. She's basically a rock star. Please get the facts. Thanks.

  Friendly reminder that PAWS is a low-kill shelter tasked with a community that is too large for their facility. They work very hard to find homes for the animals in their care and they do everything they can to keep euthenashia to a minimum. Keep in mind that it is not a customer service job, they are government employees who's main task is caring for animals in accordance with the law, not being nice to the public. It is easy to blame them for the area's animal problems but that doesn't make it right or accurate in any way. They are an amazing group of people doing great work. I have volunteered with them quite a bit and it's always been a very rewarding experience. Everyone is very nice and the animals are well cared for. They really do work hard to send as many dogs to rescue as they can and euthenize as rarely as possible. I definitely hope to adopt from them when I have room for another pet. I highly recommend volunteering with PAWS.
